The Best Rock Climbing Southern Locations in Southern Utah

Zion National Park

The Moonlight Buttress

The Moonlight Buttress provides the perfect opportunity for rock climbing in Southern Utah. A crack system runs the entire summit, making it a fun climb for those with experience and aid but very difficult for free climbers.

Shune's Buttress

You'll find Shune's Buttress in the Red Arch Mountain area of Zion National Park. This challenging rock climbing experience includes several crack and groove areas that require chimneying up the face of the mountain.

Namaste

Grooves run up the entire wall at the Namaste summit. You need to hike in to climb here, but the views from the top are worth it. Climbing down can get a little tricky.

Led by Sheep

The Led by Sheep summit on the eastern side of Zion offers a fun adventure up and around the smooth slabs of cylindrical rock. The climb up isn't incredibly difficult, and you can rappel down the steep slope.

Prodigal Sun

The Angel's Landing area of Zion provides some of the most spectacular views while rock climbing in Southern Utah. Bolts run up and down the line, so no hammer is necessary, but you should bring a belay seat.

Ashtar Command

Ashtar Command sits across from a ranger station near the Mount Carmel Highway Tunnel. The two pitches provide a classic climbing experience in Southern Utah with sweeping views of the surrounding canyon.

Touchstone Wall

Touchstone Wall is across the canyon from the Prodigal Sun, features fantastic free climbing, and there are plenty of ledges to enjoy the incredible views.

The Headache

The name of this rock climbing slope in Southern Utah is ironic because The Headache is actually a classic hike. The climb has a hands, fingers and an off-width section.

½ Route

This northwestern section of Zion National Park is home to a large portion of ladder rung-like horizontal features that make for a fun and challenging climb.

Dost Mitra

This Kolob Canyon rock climb in Southern Utah offers two routes that both provide a fun and exciting climb in the relatively narrow slot canyon.

Monkeyfinger

Monkeyfinger is one of the best all-free routes in Zion National Park. This rock climbing experience in Southern Utah features an exciting last pitch that is worth the entire trek.
Tip: We recommend that only experienced climbers attempt these summits. Also, do not climb here if the ground near the cliff base is wet, as this can make for dangerous climbing conditions.
