Exploring Mystery Canyon in Zion National Park requires special permits. The only way to trek through the canyon is by canyoneering. There are several tour companies in the area that offer training and tours that teach you the necessary swimming, hiking, climbing, and problem-solving skills needed for canyoneering. Warning: If you don't have canyoneering experience or do not have a permit, you can not explore Mystery Canyon. While it is full of breathtaking sights, flash flooding, small landslides, and loose terrain can make a journey very dangerous. Make sure you apply early for a permit as there are only 12 spots open every day and Zion National Park holds a lottery for them four months in advance.
