Your Guide to Exploring Orderville Canyon in Zion National Park
What is Orderville Canyon?
Orderville Canyon is a part of The Narrows'"a network of mind-boggling canyons weaving through the center of Zion National Park. The mix of waterfalls, smooth walls, and giant boulders give these tight passageways an other-worldly feel. Start your 11-mile journey at the Orderville Canyon Trailhead, where you'll hike through a beautiful slot canyon until you reach the main entrance to the canyon. Once you reach the starting point, there are several miles of relatively easy hiking before you get to a massive, 15-foot tall boulder. This is just inside of the Zion National Park boundary. Orderville Canyon becomes more narrow after this, and you'll experience water and boulder obstacles until you reach the end, signified by a waterfall. After enjoying this oasis, hike through the rest of The Narrows until you reach the Temple of Sinawava, where the Zion Shuttle will pick you up.How Can I Visit the Canyon?
Exploring Orderville Canyon in Zion National Park may not sound incredibly difficult, but it's not for inexperienced hikers. You need a permit from the national park to venture into the canyons, and even then, you should have at least basic canyoneering experience. There are a handful of tour companies that provide training and guided trips through Zion, which may be the best way to see most of these hard-to-reach areas. Warning: While it's not required, we do not recommend hiking Orderville Canyon in Zion National Park with canyoneering experience or proper gear, as many of the technical challenges in the canyon are daunting for beginners.
